New adventures on the horizon

Step into the world of my upcoming novels. Discover the shared threads that connect these stories of ordinary people in extraordinary times, and explore the themes that will captivate your imagination. Join me as I bring these historical tales to life.

The stories they share

Although my next two books take place on opposite sides of the globe, they share several defining qualities. They are stories about ordinary people trapped inside extraordinary historical events. Neither novel is primarily about famous generals or political leaders. Instead, individuals experience history as they try to protect their families, preserve their values, and survive impossible circumstances.

They also emphasize culture before catastrophe. In "Hiroshima Darling," readers experience Kyoto's artistry and traditions before war consumes them. In "Under A Fallen Sky," readers witness the remnants of a homeland and the struggle to survive its destruction. Because readers first come to care about the world, its loss carries greater emotional weight. Another shared strength is my willingness to explore historically overlooked perspectives, such as the experiences of East Prussian civilians and the daily lives of ordinary Japanese families in the years leading to Hiroshima.

Themes and narratives to anticipate

My upcoming books continue to explore the overlooked human stories of World War II—often overshadowed by the conflict's larger battles. Readers can expect sweeping historical fiction filled with moral dilemmas, resilience, sacrifice, and the enduring strength of family in the face of unimaginable hardship.

"The Devil's Bargain," the second book in the "Under A Fallen Sky" series, explores the dangerous underworld of postwar Europe, where the line between justice and survival blurs. Meanwhile, "Hiroshima Darling" transports readers to wartime Japan, following a family whose centuries-old traditions are tested as their nation marches toward one of history's most devastating moments.

Above all, my goal is to immerse readers in richly researched historical settings while telling deeply personal stories that remind us history is ultimately about the people who lived through it.
